An experience to share with…

Technically, I am an Engineer, and I agree to the fact that “Most Engineers in India decide what they actually want to do in their life after they become an Engineer”. Well, no offence to all the engineers out there. Yes, I belong to the same category too.

I loved to sketch, illustrate, doodle since I was a kid. I could not choose a career out of it after I finished my High School, neither while taking admission in engineering. I believe some sort of chemical disturbances might have taken place during the last phase of the engineering life. As a result of which I had set my mind that I have to pursue a career in Design further and I kept to it.

Time flies like anything, did not realize that 3 years of engineering just got over in no time. Then comes the last year where our university had blessed us with seminars, projects, paper publishing apart from the semesters and the internals. At the end of third year, I had thought that I should start the basics of design learning once the last year starts. But due to the hectic schedule, I could hardly get a chance to move ahead with my plans. With this we enter the final year.

I remember the last year where there was a shout for campus placements. Who does not want a campus placement? Everyone does! So did I, hence joined the rat race in a belief that some magic might happen and I get to work in a prestigious company. But trust me, I never studied for the placement tests as I never really had to join it and get distracted with my own plans. I kept questioning myself as to how should I move ahead and make a career. At the same time I was really happy for my friends getting placed in good companies. Well, that reminds me, that probably the best thing I did in my college life was to make amazing friends for lifetime.

Of course then comes the end of the last year, farewell and then finally Graduation Day on 20th September,2014, the day for which all of us were waiting eagerly. I can’t  forget the day when I was officially an Engineer. But what disturbed me the most was the question, What next? I had made up my mind that no matter what happens, I have to stick to my plans and that’s what I did for past an year.

Today again is 20th September and I write this as a reminder to myself that when you follow your heart, do the work you love to do, you surely will be praised, encouraged and make a way ahead. The past one year had been a fruitful one where I learned as much as I can which includes software’s such as Illustrator, In Design, Photoshop, have worked on various design projects and a social project too.

With this one year, I dedicate myself for further more years to come and find a way ahead keeping in mind that, “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”- Steve Jobs.
